Bruno Capinan is an emerging singer-songwriter, poet of multiple facets and owner of a gentle yet provocative voice. He moved to Toronto in 2002 at age 21 and started playing at the city’s many venues since. Immersed in the multiculturalism of his new city, this Brazilian-born artist found a fresh start to his music career and his own song-writing. He quickly began collaborating with local musicians and captivating Canadian audiences.
His musical influences range from Canada’s Lhasa de Sela, Icelandic singer Bjork to the artists he was listening to growing up in Brazil, such as Caetano Veloso and Mutantes. He was determined to write songs that would reach audiences at a universal level, experimenting with cross-cultural influences and pop music.
His debut album Gozo* is due out early 2010. Recorded in Canada with additional works in Australia and Brazil, the album is a rhythmic interpretation of the vast amount of music that the singer has explored since his arrival in Canada. Composed of ten original tracks, as well as a cover of country singer Hank Williams, the self-produced record has been described as a "remarkably original-sounding album and a strong debut from a young artist” by Now Magazine.
* Gozo is Portuguese for pleasure, to be a laugh, to be in the full possession of one’s mental faculties, orgasm, semen, joy. Also known as a small island of the Maltese archipelago in the Mediterranean Sea.
