  • Bio

Video by Tim Buchanan of Synapse Trap and Mark "Movieman". Tim also did the production of this song. .. .. .. .. .. ........Online Videos by Veoh.com.. I was born in Brooklyn, NY. My musical journey began at the age of 5 with my first guitar. I was in my first rock band at age 12, electric guitar in hand. By my teens I was performing in local cafes and clubs. In my early twenties, with a one way ticket and and a friend I was on my way to Europe. We sang in the streets of London, Paris, Amsterdam, eventually landing a job in a nightclub in Barcelona, Spain. We then made our way through Italy and eventually to the deserts of Israel performing in clubs all along the way. Upon returning home to NYC I played the Village clubs. I was featured in the national documentary TV series "Rap to Rock." I then found a manager in London and formed The Carrie Starner Band (my name at the time). We played the clubs and bars and live radio in London and received great reviews. I was a winner in Musician Magazine's best unsigned band contest also winning numerous Billboard song contest awards. I have continually been a recipient of ASCAP's writer awards. My song lyrics have been published in two of Sheila Davis's acclaimed books on lyric writing as examples of distinguished writing. I recently was a winner of Nashville's first Jewish Songwriter's contest and my song Nuieba was featured first on their compilation album. I have had a few of my songs cut by other independent artists. My debut CD "Looking Through Windows" was picked up by radio stations across the country. I am currently at work on my second CD. Recent reviews: The City Paper Nashville, Tenn. http://www.nashvillecitypaper.com Music City Muse Local talents release fabulous new CDs Carrie Mills Looking Through Windows (Brooklyngirl Records) With the opening track, "Dance for a Dollar", Carrie Mills debut EP Looking Through Windows wafts into your consciousness like the scent of a woman. Mills' pop craft is refreshingly different from most of what Nashville's local music scene is producing these days. Stylistically, the CD ranges from the latin-tinged flavors to the sultry island grooves of Sade before making radical turns towards "Mama" era Genesis. Carrie's talent as a singer and songwriter make this CD the sonic success that it is. Carrie's songwriting is subtly brilliant and her vocals at times haunting, other times penetrating. Some of the more outstanding tracks are the jazzy nylon-string guitar driven "Need to Forget," with acoustic textures reminiscent of Pat Metheny, and the dramatic The Police-sounding "Memories (Love Again)." Along with the pop-influences are the Middle Eastern tinged "Nuieba (Pita! Pita!)" and the a capella-opening title track that closes out the disc. Top to bottom, this disc is a solid effort worth picking up. - Drew Walen "Current Plowhaus artist and former New Yorker Carrie Mills debut CD Looking Through Windows is now down at Spun. A mix of a poets observational lyrics with atmospheric echoing guitars, acoustic harmonics and ethnic percussion, Mills voice floats above it all with a Maura OConnell/Mary Black Irish lilt. My CD is available at Borders West End and Grimeys or by contacting me.
